Cirque Spectacular

LITHE AND LIQUID ACROBATS oblivious to the laws of gravity have always been the highlight of Cirque du Soleil shows. The Canada-based troupe brings Corteo, an Italian-theme production with a story that stirs the emotions, to the Del Mar Fairgrounds January 11–February 3. Corteo opens with a Fellini-like funeral procession for a clown. Giants and little people, the silly and the spectacular gather in his honor. Before his ascent to a heavenly paradise, the audience is dazzled with floating aerialists dressed as angels, a raucous pillow fight on trampoline beds, a teeterboard challenge and sensuous duets by young women who dangle from a trio of chandeliers. Bravissimo! Look for the Grand Chapiteau at the Del Mar Fairgrounds (2260 Jimmy Durante Boulevard). Tickets range $50 to $205. 858-755-1161 or cirquedusoleil.com.
